Turkish-German relations have a long tradition and deep cultural, economical and social roots. As a consequence of the Turkey’s EU membership process and the existence of the Turkish diaspora in Germany, these relations have been intensified. Germany remains Turkey's most important economic and commercial partner within the EU. The volume of bilateral trade, worth 14 billion euro annually, has doubled in the past ten years. Nearly 14 per cent of Turkey's exports go to Germany, while 1,7 per cent of Germany's total exports go to Turkey. There are nearly 1,100 German companies operating in Turkey today, and over three million German tourists visit Turkey each year. There are an estimated 2.5 million Turks living in Germany today, and 600,000 of them have already become German citizens

2007 has the potential to be an unusual year for Turkey. Turkish political calendar will face crucial double elections. The elections are expected to influence the Turkish political spectrum in the next decade. The first one is the election of the Turkey’s 11th president in April or May 2007, who will be in office until 2014. No individuals have officially declared their interests, although a number of active politicians are considered to be candidates. One of them is Prime Minister Erdogan.

Second key event on the political calendar will be the general elections scheduled for November 2007 and will determine the new government, which will govern Turkey until 2012.

Exxon Mobil a annoncé aujourd’hui la réalisation par sa filiale Exxon Neftegas Limited (ENL), d’un forage du puits Z-11, le puits de forage ERD le plus profond au monde.

Situé sur l’île de Sakhaline au large de la Russie orientale, le puits Z-11 qui a établi le record a atteint une profondeur totale mesurée de 11 282 mètres (37 016 pieds) soit plus de 11 kilomètres
